Racing to victory Hear the interview with Triathlete Hollie AvilNorthampton's rising triathlon star Hollie Avil has raced to victory against a world-class international field in the Corus Elite Series in Glasgow. . The win at Glasgow's Strathclyde Park also gave the 17-year-old the title of the Women's National Sprint Champion.
In cold conditions, the Salford Junior European Cup Champion of 2006 was in the lead pack for the entire race. Welsh Carol Bridge led the field from the swim leg, closely followed by Avil, Swede Lisa Norden and rising Scottish star and crowd favourite Kirsty McWilliam. Fellow Glaswegian and experienced senior Kerry Lang completed the leading athletes. Race favourites Michelle Dillon and Andrea Whitecombe made up the second chase pack.
The front group stretched to a 70 second lead for most of the two lap bike leg. Transitioning in to the run leg, Norden, Avil and McWilliam led, with Lang 15 seconds behind. Avil broke away from Norden and McWilliam with 100m from the finish line. Dillon chased down the leaders to pip Lang to take fourth position.
